Moving from primary to secondary school is a major step for your child - and for you

It’s an emotional time and children can be both worried and excited about it. It’s a time when they learn to become more independent and confident, and develop skills for adult life.
Changing schools probably means changing the way your child travels to school. Perhaps they have walked in the past and now need to travel further, meaning that they will have to use public transport or even cycle.
Transport for London (TfL) in partnership with your local borough are supporting parents, children and teachers to ensure the move from primary to secondary school is an active, safer and hassle free journey.
What is Upgrade?
‘UpGrade’ is a set of exciting new resources which are being sent to all Year 6 parents, pupils and schools in your borough in the summer term. Supported by an interactive website www.upgrade7.org.uk, the resources contain loads of useful information on what your child is likely to be concerned about and how to ensure they are well prepared for the journey to their new school. Your child will also receive a free magazine containing information to help answer any questions they may have.
This guide contains information for parents on the local area, the travel options that are available, with a wealth of useful information and advice to help you ensure your child’s new journey is a safer and happier one.
