Why cycle?

What’s good about going by bike…?

  • For a short journey it’s the fastest way to travel.  It’s four times quicker than walking!
  • You’ll get fit – cycling is a great form of exercise
  • It gives you loads of freedom – so you won’t have to ask for a lift or wait for the bus
  • It’s a fun way to get to school and it’s free!
  • Find all the cool places to ride around London on the Cycle Guide maps at www.tfl.gov.uk/cycling.

Check out these top tips on looking after your bike:

  • Find somewhere safe to lock your bike (avoid dark corners!)
  • Make sure you lock your bike to something that won’t be easy to remove – look for a cycle stand
  • Lock the frame to the stand – and if you’ve got ‘quick release’ wheels make sure they’re locked too
  • Get a good lock – d-locks with keys are best (look for a ‘Sold Secure’ sticker) but if you tend to lose stuff get a combination lock!
  • Remove any lights or parts that come off easily – if you don’t, somebody else will!

Check your helmet for a British standards kitemark.  All helmets bought from any good bike shop will have the BS mark which shows they have passed safety tests.
